Mohammad Barbati (Munich, Germany) speaks to Venous News at the 28th European Vascular Course (EVC; 9–11 March, Maastricht, The Netherlands), highlighting his role in the meeting and discussing a current research endeavour.
Barbati, who is a co-director of the venous programme for EVC, notes that the meeting is unique in its offering of both theoretical and hands-on sessions, with the latter giving delegates the opportunity to use devices that may not yet be available in their centres.
Homing in on some of his current research, Barbati draws attention to a paper recently published in the European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. The paper proposes an anatomical classification of iliofemoral chronic venous obstruction (CVO), which the authors note “will help to predict intervention outcomes and facilitate comparison of stent outcomes in future studies”. Barbati shares here that the published research was a retrospective study, before announcing plans for prospective research on the topic that should offer further insights into the pathology in question and patient selection.
