Speaking to Venous News at VEITHsymposium 2022 (15–19 November, New York, USA) Armando Mansilha (Porto, Portugal) answers the “challenging question” of how to best approach selecting an appropriate care pathway for patients with superficial venous disease. Offering a range of possible procedures, Mansilha asserts that: “Choosing wisely means knowing the available devices, technologies, and surgical possibilities”.

Discussing the challenging parameters of providing treatment, he outlines the “mandatory” topic of cost-effectiveness when considering the best route to treatment. Additionally, Mansilha covers the relationship between cost and device uptake, noting that this is an ongoing assessment that requires more data related to the “clinical effectiveness” of different devices.
